Phil will be producing Enrique again soon. Last year, Enrique joined up with his old mates from the Heroes del Silencio and played huge concerts across South and Central America, the US and Spain. A live DVD is now out and you may notice a documentary from one Charlie Manzanera Target-Adams. Yup, Phil's youngster, fresh out of film school in Mexico City, was signed up to travel with the Heroes to record their reunion tour. Talented bunch these Manzos.

Hi everyone,
I admit that I only know of Phil’s work as a producer, as he produced 2 excellent albums (my favourite rock albums!) by the legendary Spanish rock group Heroes del Silencio: “Senderos de Traicion” (Pathways of Betrayal) 1990 and “ El Espiritu del Vino” (The Spirit of Wine) 1993. I commend both to you.
I lived in Spain briefly during the early 1990’s, and I wasn’t a particular fan of Spanish pop and rock, until a heard the first track “Entre dos Tierras” on the “Senderos de Traicion” album, (which was no 1 in the Spanish charts for ages), and then I became hooked on Heroes del Silencio. You don’t need to understand Spanish to enjoy their music, as their tunes and Enrique Bunbury’s uniquely unusual voice are so fantastic. (Forget the stereotypes of Spanish popular music – Julio Iglesias, Ketchup girls, Macarena and crappy house/techno-dance tunes), Heroes are rock music at its best – loads of their stuff is on youtube, so check them out for yourself.
Enrique Bunbury has the most amazing, powerful, rich, deep, baritone voice, which I can only describe as Elvis-like. And I am enjoying his latest album as a soloist (this album is also produced by Phil Manzanera.) Why oh why, can’t someone invite Enrique (perhaps with Phil!) to perform on a decent music show like the BBC’s “Later with Jools Holland”, as he so deserves a wider audience. Enrique B is rock royalty and an icon in Spain and Latin America, well-known in Germany and central Europe, but bizarrely almost totally unknown in English-speaking countries. I can only imagine it is because he seldom sings in English, and always writes his own songs in Spanish.
I’ve seen the “fly on the wall” DVD documentary that Phil’s son made of Heroes del Silencio and their last tour in 2007, and it looks very interesting, although my Spanish is very rusty nowadays. Has a version of this DVD been released that has subtitles in English? Does anyone know?
