Quick heads up on PM's programme for 2008/9. From May thru Jan 09 Phil is producing what calls 'Collectors' editions of his back catalogue - that's 27 albums all told, starting in May. This will include, for example, the 801 Live Collectors Edition which will be a tweaked version of the original 801 Live CD + a second CD containing a recording of the last dress rehearsal at Shepperton.
Full details of prpgramme soon....

That's great news - thanks for the update! But "27 albums all told" - that's about twice as many as PM has released, isn't it? Could this be a typo... or does PM have 12 or so albums that I don't know about?

Ah yes, slight typo but still 22.... three are new and some are collaborations involving PM and one is a re-release of something recorded at Phil's old studio but on which he does not play.

Silly me posted this on wrong thread - sorry eveyone.
I suppose this means the albums by Billy Nichols and Sub Rosa - both were well above average albums considering they are neither house hold names. Is there any chance of the Tania Libertad album being released? I have only heard the one track on the Manzanera Collection and it was by far and away my favourite track on the compilation.

These are not part of the re-release programme but some I believe may well be available via the new download site Phil has planned. Certainly, as the executor of my brother's estate I will happily give the go ahead for Sub Rosa to be available this way. I would imagine Phil would be keen to see as much on the site as possible.

Any updates on the re-release of Phil's solo material? The 801 Live set has been on the cards for so long now, it would be so good to get at last a concrete release date.

The first part is nearly finished. A Japanese company is releasing the entire catalogue in a mini-Vinyl format over the next few weeks. This includes the new Firebird CD. We hope to have a few sets available for sale through the web site.
The UK releases will then start and work is in hand on artwork etc. They should be released from the autumn onwards with the new complete 801 Live double CD (i.e. the tweaked QEH concert plus the final Shepperton dress rehearsal tape) will be released early in the New Year.

We hope to have a few sets available for sale through the web site. OK - I know I'm easily confused but please bear with me here ... A set of five 'mini-LP' CDs ('Diamond Head', 'Mainstream', 'Listen Now !', 'K-Scope' and 'Primitive Guitars') has only just been released on the Arcangelo label in Japan ('exclusively licensed to TAMT Co Ltd in Japan') - my advance-order copies arrived literally two days ago. Beautifully packaged (as you'd expect - and why I bought them) but these are exactly the same discs as the last reissues (i.e. including 'Carhumba' and 'Rude Awakening' etc). And no sign of 'Firebird VII' (or any other releases), at least as far as I can tell. So, are these the 'Collector's Edition' CDs ? Or have I inadvertantly jumped the gun and need to brace myself for an additional set of mini-LP CDs to grace my shelves ? Best, Soon-to-be-Bankrupt Barry

Ummm. You've got me there and, as Phil is on holiday in the rather damp climes of Cornwall, I'm not able to comment much except to say that various record execs in Japan lurve Firebird VII so they clearly have something out there.
Other than that there are NOT the CDs we plan to release in the UK as the Japanese licenced the existing CDs and wanted to do it in a hurry. Such a hurry that I didn't know something had actually been released.
One thing that HASN'T been released in Japan is the new double 801 CD and it won't be until:
1. I have found some photographs from the Reading Festival; 2. I supply a track listing for the Shepperton rehearsal; and 3. I (for some reason) have written the sleeve notes which I have only just been asked to do (like five minutes ago).
So, still more to come from Japan AND more to come from the Expression later this year in the UK.
Oh, and my two WW1 books are about to be made available again through Amazon. Thought you'd like to know. Much bigger and far more useful than a mini CD - doorstop, paperweight, etc., etc.

Hi Bill, I see some of the Japanese releases at the link below. There is also mention of an album by Phil called Coroncho, do you have any more details for that album? Is it a Phil album or is Coroncho the name of a band that Phil has produced? J.O'B. www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/hitlist

To hear the > track 'Lowrider' go HERE. Do I hear a Manzanera voice in the backing vocals ? Best, Barry

Cornwall is rather lovely at the right time of year but I would advise PM to go easy on the pasties - as of last year, my spandex has had to be consigned to the very back of the cupboard and I can no longer reach the volume pots on my red Firebird VII without a rather complicated pulley arrangement ... 2. In general, record execs in Japan 'rurve' rather than 'lurve' everything - sorry ... but 'Fiya-bad-o Seb-en' is much easier for them to say than 'Phil Manzanera' so that's always good 3. So ... are there plans for Japanese 'mini-LP' CDs (somebody come up with a snappier name for these please !) of the Collector's Edition CDs or will I have to decant the new discs into the Japanese covers ? 4. Based on your literary output so far, I'm a little concerned about the nett weight of the new 801 double CD with sleeve notes ... and the amount of time it will take to research and write 5. At a conservative estimate there were some 53 British divisions taking part in the Somme battle, which took some 141 days. So far you've written two books, each covering a single division ON THE FIRST DAY ... I can't even bring myself to ask the next question ... ;D Best, Barry
