Hello, everyone.
My name is Alan Heaton. I run a small US indie record label called Burning Sky Records. We are currently putting together a massive album revisiting the songs of Roxy Music, as well as Roxy Music Side Projects, including the solo work of Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Eno, and Bryan Ferry.
This Roxy Music Revisited album is the third in a series of similar projects celebrating the songs of my favorite bands. We have previously released a 35-track, 2-CD homage to US band Jellyfish, and we just released a 46-track, 3-CD ode to US band The Posies.
In our releases, we have tried to move beyond the rather tired “tribute album” concept where bands crank out tepid, polite imitations of a given band’s songs. Instead, we have attempted to involve members of the bands being celebrated themselves in the records, as well as bands who were influenced by the band being celebrated. For example, for “Beautiful Escape: The Songs of The Posies Revisited,” we had individual song contributions from 4 different present and former members of The Posies, as well as from bands influenced by The Posies from 13 countries from across the world. That’s exactly what we’re attempting to do here, as well.
Mr. Manzanera, I'm not sure if you read these forums, but I would love to have you be a part of this record! To say that it would be an honor would be an understatement. I am going to try very hard to get at least a couple of former Roxy Music band members to be a part of the record - it would make the whole project that much more special. If you might have ANY interest at all in potentially participating, or if you would like to discuss the project further, please contact me at burningskyrecords@gmail.com.
If people would like to learn more about the album, we have just created a MySpace page at www.myspace.com/songsofroxymusicrevisited
Also, if you would be interested in submitting a track, or if you know of a band who would be good to include on the record, please contact me at burningskyrecords@gmail.com.
As a Roxy Music (and all off the Roxy Offshoots!) fan for more than 30 years, I do not enter into this project lightly. We aim to release the best album of Roxy Music songs since those released by the band itself!
Cheers,
Alan
